An Autumn Evening with Marcus Wareing at The Horse & Groom
Thursday 15th October
We are honoured to welcome Marcus Wareing to The Horse & Groom for one very special evening in East Ashling.
One of Britain’s most respected and acclaimed Michelin-starred chefs and restaurateurs, and a familiar face as a resident judge on BBC’s MasterChef: The Professionals, Marcus will join us for an intimate one-night-only dining experience.
Working alongside our Head Chef, Luke Cockram, Marcus has created a menu inspired by his love of classical French cooking, bringing together seasonal, locally produced ingredients with the techniques and influences that have shaped his career.
This will be an exceptional evening of food, wine and conversation, served in the relaxed, unpretentious surroundings of our dining room here in East Ashling. We will be enjoying a seasonal menu with French influences, created by Marcus Wareing in collaboration with our Head Chef, Luke Cockram.
Recommended wine pairings will be available on the evening, selected from our cellar to complement the menu.
Meet Marcus Wareing
Originally from Southport, Merseyside, Marcus Wareing began his culinary career at the age of 18, moving to London to work at The Savoy before gaining experience at Le Gavroche and working internationally in New York State and Amsterdam.
His career has seen him work alongside some of the most influential chefs in the industry, including Albert Roux and Gordon Ramsay, as well as spending time at the renowned Restaurant Guy Savoy in Paris.
Marcus earned his first Michelin star at just 26, an achievement reached by only a handful of chefs at such a young age. He went on to play a defining role in the creation of Pétrus, which was awarded two Michelin stars following its move to The Berkeley Hotel.
In 2008, Marcus and his wife Jane launched Marcus Wareing Restaurants with the opening of the Michelin-starred Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley, establishing Marcus as one of the leading figures in British fine dining.
Alongside his restaurant career, Marcus has become one of the most recognisable chefs on British television. Since 2014, he has been a judge and mentor on BBC’s MasterChef: The Professionals, inspiring and challenging a new generation of chefs. He has also presented Tales from a Kitchen Garden and other food-focused BBC series exploring Mallorca and Provence.
Marcus is also an accomplished author, having written ten cookbooks, including Marcus Everyday, New Classics, Marcus at Home, Marcus’ Kitchen and Marcus’s France.
His career continues to span restaurants, television, publishing and culinary education, with his work focused on developing talent, encouraging creativity and challenging the conventions of the modern kitchen.
Marcus’s France
The menu for this very special evening has been created from Marcus’s cookbook, Marcus’s France, celebrating the dishes, flavours and culinary influences that have shaped his connection with French cooking.
Signed copies of the book will be available to purchase on the evening.
The event forms part of The Horse & Groom’s developing guest chef series, designed to bring leading figures in British gastronomy to West Sussex while reinforcing the pub’s ambition to deliver cooking of depth and substance within a welcoming village setting.
